Here are some lessons one may learn from the recent episodes of Flappy Bird – the game.
- Truly innovative ideas do blossom sometimes (if not always), but mixing up different good ideas to make up something better can turn out fruitful too.
Dong Nguyen, creator of Flappy Bird, “might” have taken idea of movement of the bird through obstacles from a game called Helicopter, while shape of the obstacles (green pipes) and sound of passing by those obstacles successfully, from the famous game, Super Mario.
- Free Apps can earn you money too. (Look into in-app purchases and in-app adverts.)
Flappy Bird was making $50k a day via adverts, which appeared on the free game. (BBC)
- Safe bet is to give Gameplay higher priority over making your game’s graphics smoother or 3D’ish.
- Money isn’t everything. Comfort has more value, perhaps.
Dong Nguyen’s recently tweeted something on the lines of he cannot take it anymore which can be related.
